At Self Centre Massage and Wellness, we understand that managing pain is challenging enough without the added stress of handling insurance paperwork. That’s why we offer direct billing to most insurance companies, so our clients can focus solely on their recovery and well-being. We take care of the billing process, requiring only a valid credit card or Visa/MC debit card as a backup payment method. This way, our clients can rest easy, knowing that the financial aspect is handled, allowing them to concentrate on healing and feeling better.

Direct Billing Massage in Edmontong

It is the client’s responsibility to:

  • Provide a credit card or Visa/MC debit as a back up payment method in case of any issues (Blue Cross excepted)
  • Ensure their plan allows direct billing for these services, and that the clinic can be paid directly. Some plans will only pay to the plan holder
  • Know if a doctor’s note is required, if so this would need to be sent to the insurance company directly
  • Find out limits of coverage (ie some plans only pay a percentage)
  • Find out when the benefits year starts/ends

If the insurance company doesn’t reimburse the centre for any reason, the client is responsible to cover the cost. When this is the case the amount owing is due immediately and will be taken from the card provided. If there is no credit card on file or the credit card is declined, we will make reasonable attempts to collect, after which time all unpaid accounts will be sent to a collections agency.

Please fill out your online forms to expedite your appointment start time and arrive 10 minutes before your appointment time. (Appointments will end on time even if they aren’t started on time due to paperwork.) For some companies these forms need to be filled out each time as per insurance company guidelines. We do direct bill online for many companies and don’t need forms but we still need time to enter and process the claim.

Dual Benefits – If you are covered by your insurance as well as a spouse/partner’s plan, the insurance rules are that you must claim against your plan 1st and then you can claim on the alternate plan.  If you have a secondary plan that you would like to direct bill to, please contact us prior to your first appointment. We aren’t always able to submit to two plans. In some cases, the client must submit the balance to their secondary insurance company.

Frequently Asked Questions About Direct Billing Massage in Edmonton

Which insurance companies do you direct bill?
We direct bill to most major insurance providers in Edmonton including Alberta Blue Cross, Sun Life, Canada Life, Manulife, Greenshield, GroupHealth, Telus AdjudiCare, Veterans Affairs Canada, and many more. See the full list on this page or call us to confirm your provider.

Do I need to do anything before my appointment to use direct billing?
Yes. Please fill out our online forms before your appointment and arrive 10 minutes early to allow time for processing. Bring your insurance card or plan information. Some providers require forms to be completed each visit.

What if my insurance does not cover the full amount?
If your plan only covers a percentage of the treatment, you are responsible for the remaining balance at the time of your appointment. We require a valid credit card or Visa/MC debit card on file as a backup payment method.

Do I need a doctor’s referral for direct billing massage therapy?
Some insurance plans require a doctor’s referral before they will reimburse or accept direct billing claims. Check with your provider before your appointment to confirm whether a referral is required under your specific plan.

Can I use dual benefits at The Self Centre?
If you are covered under both your own plan and a spouse or partner’s plan, insurance rules require you to claim against your primary plan first. Please contact us before your appointment if you would like to direct bill to a secondary plan, as we are not always able to submit to two plans simultaneously.

What happens if my insurance company does not reimburse the clinic?
If your insurance company does not reimburse us for any reason, you are responsible for covering the cost. The amount owing will be charged to the credit card on file.
